On Page Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
On page SEO is a very important aspect of getting your site ranked organically (naturally) in the search engines. As I have stated previously, organic (or natural) traffic is free. This is the traffic that you get when someone types a search phrase into a search engine; your website comes up in the organic or natural listings. You can get a ton of traffic from this, and it is totally free.
On page SEO may not be as important as off page SEO, but it does not hurt to properly setup your page with on page SEO. The steps you need to take for proper on page SEO setup are not hard, it just takes a few times around to learn the process of doing it right. When you think of on page SEO, try to think of easy access and a well described layout.
Search engines, especially Google, love sites that are both easy to navigate and sites that are easy to understand what something is. For example, you want to properly name your links, pictures, videos, and other content included on your website.
On Page Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Techniques
On page SEO is pretty easy if you just remember to give your visitors a good description, good content, and easy navigation. If you do these 3 things, your site will be setup for on page SEO pretty well. There are a few specific things that I want to mention that you should always do in order to practice good on page SEO techniques.
The following are the 10 most important things (to me) in order to have your site properly setup for good on page SEO…So here are my 10 Good On Page SEO Techniques:
Good On Page SEO Technique #1: Linking Your Pages Together
Make sure that you always link your pages together. Notice how at the bottom of each of my pages of my website I have links going back to the main pages of my site. You at least want to have a link going back to the home page of your site. When the only way to go back is by the back button on your browser, you are not practicing good on page SEO techniques.
Good On Page SEO Technique #2: Meta Description & Meta Keywords
Some people believe that meta tags do not make a difference, although I must disagree. They would not be an option if they didn’t make a difference. Make sure that you include both a meta description and meta keywords tag for each of your pages. Make each description and keywords tag unique to the page you are currently on. You usually don’t want to include more than 10 keywords in your meta keywords tag, and never try stuffing in a bunch of keywords into the meta keywords tag (or the meta description tag at that).
Good On Page SEO Technique #3: Title Tags
Title tags are very important for on page SEO. Your title tags are what will show in the organic search engine results for that specific page. So you want to include a title that will draw people in, but also something that has your main keywords in it. A mistake a lot of people make is focusing just on putting the keywords in the title, but this makes the title boring and will not draw clicks. Find a happy medium between the two to both rank well and draw clicks.
Good On Page SEO Technique #4: H1, H2 & H3 Tags
The H1, H2 & H3 tags (heading tags) are important because this is the large text on your site, and the search engines see these as the important keywords. Always include your main keywords in at least 1 H1 tag on each page.
Good On Page SEO Technique #5: Keyword Density
Keyword Density is also very important for on page SEO because having your main keywords the right amount of times on a page can really help your site’s rankings. If you have your keywords too little times then the search engines may not notice them and you will not rank as well as you may want to. If you stuff the keywords into a page, and they are listed too many times, the search engines may see that as keyword stuffing and penalize you. Try to keep about a 2%-3% keyword density.
Good On Page SEO Technique #6: Site Map
The search engines love site maps because they show organization. Always make sure to properly organize your site map.
Good On Page SEO Technique #7: Hypertext Links
Make sure that you always include your keywords in hypertext links throughout your pages. Hyperlinks are another important factor to the search engines, so include your main keywords in hypertext links at least once on your page.
Good On Page SEO Technique #8: Bolding
As with H1, H2 & H3 tags, it is also important to bold your keywords at least a couple times throughout each page. Bolding the keywords again shows the search engines that those words are important, and will help you rank higher.
Good On Page SEO Technique #9: Relevancy & Unique Content
Making your content relevant and unique is one of the most important factors to ranking high in the organic listings. If you have good relevant and unique content on your site, your site should do very well.
Good On Page SEO Technique #10: Good Domain Name
Now some may not consider this an on page SEO factor, but I am going to include it here anyways. Having your main keyword(s) in your domain name can definitely help you out a lot in ranking in the search engines. Also, make sure your domain name is not too long, as most search engines don’t like real long domain names.
If you practice the above 10 Good On Page SEO Technique practices, your on page SEO setup should be very good. As I have mentioned before, on page SEO is definitely important, but off page SEO is what can really get you ranked highly. Although, every little bit does count, so make sure you do both of them the right way!
